Yusril Mahendra ready to be investigated

11 May 2007, JAKARTA - Yusril Ihza Mahendra, until last Tuesday State Secretary, has said he was ready to face investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the cases that are related to him. “I will face everything. I've never avoided legal problems,” he said after he handed over his post as State Secretary to Hatta Rajasa two days ago. He oped that the KPK would carry out the investigation honestly, fairly and objectively. “It must be free from political interests,” he said.

There are at least two cases that are related to Yusril and are currently being investigated by the KPK. The first one, is alleged corruption with an automatic fingerprint system procurement at the department of Justice and Human Rights in 2004. The second one concerned the disbursement of funds from Tommy Suharto at the London branch of BNP Paribas in 2004-2005, which totals some 10.955 million US dollar, or 100 billion Rupiah.
