JAYAPURA, 06 August 2008 - Five Indian nationals, including a woman, have been arrested by Indonesian police for "overstaying". Immigration chief of Jayapura, Maman Budiman said that the five Indian nationals were arrested by police while they were in a hotel in Jayapura, the capital of Papuan province, yesterday. An investigation found that their visa had expired a month ago.

The Indians have been identified as Abdul Kahar, Muhammad Jahangir, Muhammed Raffek, Sharfana Sharfuddin and Mavila Kadapurram. One among the five was a woman who had been staying in Jayapura for about two weeks. They wanted to go to the tourist resort of Wamena to see snow, Indonesian news agency Antara reported. The five Indians are now lodged in a detention cell of the immigration office in Jayapura, Maman said.
