Indonesian prosecutors target Tommy Suharto
Posted 25 May 2007 @ 05:42
JAKARTA, 25 May 2007 - The Attorney General's office in Indonesia said it will start questioning people towards filing a new civil case against Tommy Suharto as soon as next week. Tommy Suharto is the youngest son of former president Suharto. A court in Guernsey in the British Channel Islands has agreed to extend a current freeze of 59 million US dollar in funds held by a company controlled by Tommy Suharto. In this way they hope to unveil some of the paper trails left behind by the assumed ill-gotten gains.
An additional condition on the ruling was that Indonesia was to pursue a civil case against Tommy Suharto within three months. This process will start next week when interviews with witnesses will start. They will focus on the more than 90 million US dollar that Tommy is accused of obtaining from a clove monopoly. In this way, local farmers and cigarette companies were forced to sell and buy via a board that was lead by Tommy.
