JAKARTA, 02 December 2006 - Indonesia saw a surplus of US$32 billion in its foreign trade in the January-October 2006 period, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said on Friday. Over the period the country earned US$82.21 billion from exports, while its imports stood at US$50.21 billion, the BPS said.
In October 2006 alone, Indonesia`s exports reached US$8.72 billion and its imports US$4.49 billion, enabling the country to enjoy a surplus of US$4.23 billion compared to US$3.12 billion a month before. October`s exports fell slightly from a month earlier when the figure was US$8.78 billion. However, imports in October were lower than in September when the country imported US$5.66 billion worth of commodities. Compared to August 2006, exports in September fell 1.18 percent.
