JAKARTA, 12 May 2006 - Three militants suspected of beheading three Christian schoolgirls have been arrested in the Indonesian restive town of Poso and the video of their confession was shown here on Friday at the police headquarters. In the five-minute video, the suspects appeared separately to confess their crime or express remorse with the absence of their lawyers.
"I'm responsible for the killing of three students of the Poso Christian High School. I would like to apologize to the families of the victims and I realize now what I have done is against the law," said Hasanuddin, one of the suspects. Another suspect identified as Haristo said he was a member of the Poso Mujaheedin which involved in the beheadings, the killing of a prosecutor, the shooting of a female priest and other attacks on several churches in Poso.
The three were arrested last week in separate police raids. Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said Hasanuddin was the suspected brain behind the brutal killing last October. "We have a list of several other suspects who remain at large,"he said. Poso in Central Sulawesi province has become a scene of sectarian conflicts between Muslims and Christians since 1999, during which hundreds of people were killed in violent clashes.
