JAKARTA, 07 May 2006 - Indonesian police arrested five people, accused of being aides of Noordin M. Top, who was claimed as the Southeast Asian No. 1 terrorist leader, in Central Sulawesi provincial capital of Palu, a report says on Sunday. The five people, who were arrested on Saturday evening, are identified as Aprianto alias Irwan, Arman alias Haris, Nano, AbdulMuis, and Asrudin, according to report of Antara news agency.
Asrudin was the first person arrested by police officers from Detachment 88 -- the anti-terror police unit. The other four were arrested based on the information from Asrudin, who lived in Baru subdistrict in Palu. Meanwhile, Salma, Asrudin's wife, denied her husband was involved in a terrorist network chaired by Noordin, who was a Malaysian national.
Noordin, one of Southeast Asia's most wanted terrorists, escaped when security forces raided his suspected hideout last week in Central Java. Police arrested two aides of Noordin and fatally shot two others.
