JAKARTA, 12 March 2006 - Health officials in Indonesia say they'll improve their efforts to stop bird flu. The announcement comes after two children died of the H5N1 virus, pushing the country's human death total to 22. Indonesia has been criticized for not acting quickly enough when bird flu first appeared in chickens three years ago.
In Taiwan, officials are protesting a World Health Organization infections map that lumped the island in with its rival, China. Taiwan is identified as a place that has suffered human bird flu infections, but Taiwanese leaders say they haven't had any cases of the disease.
The UN agriculture agency is urging Cambodian health officials to increase their monitoring of wild and migratory birds from Southeast Asia to Europe and Africa. It's part of an attempt to halt the H5N1 virus.
