EINDHOVEN, 30 November 2004 - For the first time in Euro history, the interbank exchange rate has hit 12,000 rupiah level. The recent rise has been caused by an increasingly stronger Euro against the US dollar and a weakening US dollar in general.
Interbank rates are the foreign exchange rates used by banks. When customers draw money from an ATM, the rates are generally a few percent lower than the interbank rate, making the level of 12,000 rupiah for one Euro about 11,760 when using an ATM or other banking instrument to acquire foreign currency.
