DENPASAR, 08 September 2003 - A district court here sentenced another "fund raiser" of Bali bombing, Abdul Rauf, to 16 years in jail for a criminal act of terrorism. Earlier, two other fund raisers, Andi Hidayat and Junaedi, were found guilty of jointly raising funds for the October 12, 2002, bombings of two nightspots in Bali's famous tourist spot of Kuta. The three were members of the so-called "Serang Group" as they were captured for alleged crimes in Serang, a district town in the Province of Banten.
Hidayat, Junaedi and Rauf were accused of involvement in the robbing of jewellery in Serang, allegedly stealing 2.5 kilograms of gold from the shop and using the money from the theft to finance the Bali bombings. Indonesian police have detained more than 30 people, including several key suspects, in connection with the Bali bombings that also left hundreds of others injured.
Monday's triple convictions follow capital punishment handed down last month by the Bali court against key suspect Amrozi in the deadly Bali blasts nearly a year ago. The Bali district court is scheduled to hand down another verdict on Wednesday against Imam Samudra, believed to be the field coordinator of the blasts. In a previous court hearing, state prosecutors demanded the death sentence to Samudra, born Abdul Azis.
