BATAM, 07 September 2003 - Four people were killed in a hotel fire in Batam, Indonesia, on Sunday. Police said the cause of the early morning fire on the ninth floor of the Hotel Harmoni, a tourist hotel on Batam island near Singapore, was still being investigated. They said 14 people were injured.
Police said three Indonesians and a Singaporean were killed. Hospital officials said at least five of the injured people were also from Singapore. Batam is about 25 kilometres south of Singapore. About 200 guests are believed to have stayed at the hotel on Saturday night.
